About ten years ago among gamers, a common thought appeared that all possible game genres have been invented, and nothing fundamentally new will appear. On the one hand, stupidity, because original and original projects do not want to end even today. But there is a share of truth in this – just ten years ago, some genres formed and “closed” finally. Standards Diablo-The clone was set in 2000 and since then only cosmetic changes have been undergoing. It is inconvenient to create games of this direction – it is easy to break what is already working, but even easier to do something boring and secondary. Today everything is especially bad – after Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2, they just stopped taking the genre. Here Neocore Games and decided to use the situation, releasing The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing -Judging by the trailers, the most classic representative of Action-RPG.
How many years have passed – all about the same wires
Explain how everything works, even ashamed. There is a protagonist, van Helsing – the younger. His hobby is to perform quests that can be taken in peaceful settlements. The task usually comes down to going beyond the gate, examining the location and killing of some big evil enemy. Or the search for a very important and vital artifact/bag/slippers. The hero sets off, everyone is dying, the mission is fulfilled – you can return to the city, sell the loot and distribute experience points.
The role system is also standard, with the only amendment that there is no choice of character for obvious reasons. The hero initially has a tendency to everything – carries a sword, a gun with him, and holds a couple of spells in his pocket. Accordingly, there are several branches of Skill with modifiers for thin tuning. A separate tab is made for AUR and skills that need to learn from NPC. When this is not enough and this, you can turn to the fame, which accumulates in parallel with experience and allows you to acquire unique “perki”.
Together with the selection of equipment (which allows you to balance between quick and strong attacks), it turns out 5-6 ways to “cast” the character. Alas, all these are only cosmetic changes – fundamentally van Helsing always remains the same, and therefore players who meet in a cooperative are similar to each other. And this is a problem.
The partner entrusted to the main character does not change. The role of the mercenary and domestic animal is assigned to Katarin – a friendly ghost, which in battle becomes an unfriendly jellyfish. The computer controls her, but the player determines the tactics and equipment – the girlfriend will need to distribute experience points and give the revolvers more likely. There is even a small scope for the strategy, because an immortal (or more correctly say, constantly reviving) partner can be thrown at the advanced “tank” or put in the rear of the “Hilery”. Again, depending on the taste.
Sometimes you have to retreat from the usual plan – the opponents in the game are minimal, but still differ from each other. Some cause serious damage, and they need to be killed carefully;others instantly regenerate, and you have to run along the entire location. The general principle, of course, does not change much, but yes, you will sometimes have to connect your head.

At a certain stage of development Neocore Games I posted a video (you can find it now), in which it presented the community as many as three Helsing. A survey was conducted: what type of people like the most? Those who wish voted, and the winner in the image of a “mysterious laconic wanderer” was inscribed in the storyline. Which turned out to be surprisingly decent.
The plot is simply described-the traveler, along with his ghostly friend, goes to the last homeland, to some conditional European hinterland. And there is suddenly an opponent of a suitable scale – a sect of crazy scientists, from the oppression of which should urgently save local residents. The semantic load in what is happening exactly as much as the genre requires-the dialogs fit into several replicas, important events happen once every couple of hours, and some amazing plot moves are completely absent.
The Incredible Adventures takes others – feed and design. The evil hunter is very pleasant and literary expressed, perfectly preserving the image;His girlfriend every 15 minutes gives out severity;The surrounding characters are thought out and registered so that each of the phrases allotted to them sound fresh and interesting. In this sense, I would like to compare the game, probably, with Magicka – everything is not so absurd, but just as talented.
Excellent dialogs are superimposed on the constant updating of the scene – every couple of hours the play style is radically transformed. Spacious meadows are replaced by multi -level streets, classic evil crows are replaced by sophisticated Frankensteins, and this is accompanied by renewal of color scheme and musical theme. I generally want to allocate the soundtrack separately – it is very pleasant for a low -budget project.
The locations, among other things, are filled with side missions and random events – a ghost wanders along the edge of the edge, a brownie with a bag of gold shows past, and a drunkard in the village talks about a goat that has overshadowed jewelry. It’s nice that often all this is not even displayed as a task, the player naturally explores the world and searches for secrets in it. Which, of course, plus.
There are also entertainment cities – developers have thought out a system of improving weapons. You can kill for more than one hour, coating the sword with poisons, modifying the workbench or trying to enchant the rings. And after – redistribute skills, at any time passing completely rebuilding the character. The main thing is that all this is not necessarily and necessary only in high complexity, and before that it remains only a pleasant opportunity.
Alas, there is enough pleasure for only one time. The back of careful study is the absence of any procedural generation. “Incredible adventures” are crept in-the levels are always strictly the same, the dead opponents are not revived (which is why the traveled locations become deserted), and you no longer want to laugh at the same jokes twice. The project is in an interesting position – it is played as the most ordinary Hack and Slash, designed for tens of hours of unhurried reproduction, but at the same time it does not offer any incentives for returning back.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing – This is a wonderful game in all respects. I do not want to blame her for secondaryness – everything works well and is deprived of doubtful innovations. Instead, they are given to us what competitors do not shine – a high -quality humor, a decent plot and a surprisingly worked out world. The only thing that could be attributed to the minuses is the absence of any ambitions in the authors. In any case, Van Helsing will remain your companion for only a few evenings – then his resources are simply exhausted. And this is a shame, because the potential of the project is much larger.
